April 19, 2016 – GFSF is pleased to announce the publication of its April-May GFSF FOCUS, the NGO’s newsletter publication. Front and center in this issue is an article analyzing Chinese Food Safety Issues in the Internet Era. Other featured pieces include interviews with food safety experts, Bill Marler, Managing Partner at Marler Clark LLP, and Roman Miler, CEO at DUDA. A highlight of the latter interview was CEO Miler stating that “The production process for the fodder is under strict control on each level, which gives us a hundred percent safety assurance,” when asked about his company’s response to China’s export ban on Polish pork products after boars infected with African Swine Fever crossed into Poland from neighboring Belarus.
There is also a follow-up article that provides an overview of new food safety technologies that could contribute toward greater detection and compliance regarding food safety and quality, as well as an article about how agricultural development in Myanmar is intertwined with improving food safety. In addition, there is an article on rising pesticide usage in Vietnam and its impact on food safety and quality, with a focus on Vietnam’s rice sector. All of these articles point to the increasing importance of a reliable, safe, and high quality global food supply chain.
As in previous issues, FOCUS summarizes upcoming strategic food safety events including a Global Food Safety Forum Summit conference in Beijing, China from June 26-27, 2016.
